The following is an analysis of the segment of the Educational Technology marketplace for adaptive learning systems for Mathematics. The rationale for analysis is to provide a snapshot of existing offerings in the marketplace with their main characteristics and features to support the decision of executives of a company interested in developing a product in this market segment; to build and improve upon the features of existing products. The aim is to survey the state of the art of adaptive learning systems for a company or a startup developing a similar product in this space. This market is very dynamic with new products being announced and companies changing hands.
This survey is a living document which will be updated and kept up-to-date to reflect new offerings as they come into the marketplace. In this sense this analysis is never finished; the intent is that the stakeholder will look at this document at any point of time to get an up-to-date snapshot of the current landscape of adaptive learning systems for Mathematics.
We restrict our focus at this time to systems for Mathematics as during my research I found that the largest group of products were for Mathematics and also due to the time constraints of this present assignment. This survey will be updated to reflect new offerings as any new adaptive learning systems come into the marketplace for any subject, not just Mathematics.
Also this analysis provides policy-makers, parents, teachers, school administrators and educators in general with the tools to ask right questions when evaluating an adaptive learning system. Many educators struggle to understand which adaptive learning strategy would be best for their students. It is by understanding the characteristics and features of a new system or tool that we will achieve better outcomes for our students.
